FOPP Signing cancelled/postponed

To anybody who was thinking of attending (there must be one or two of you out there...) I'm afraid the signing has been cancelled/postponed. I'm not really in a position to say why. I imagine all will come to light in the weeks to come. Sincerest apologies.

Fopp cancel all the book orders from suppliers, then start to send company cars back, then start only to accept cash payments, some stores were told not to open on Friday, head office is stopping banking money. Those who worked at MVC or Music Zone may have a feeling of deja vu around now...

If that is the way things go it's a pity. The Canterbury staff are young, approachable and for a while at least FOPP breathed a bit of new life into the Canterbury music/film and bookseller scene. This company supports unsigned bands too...

We're left with two Waterstones branches, a WHSmith, Virgin and HMV. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with any of those stores but it was nice to have some variety. All the independents have long since departed.

And today I learned that the Canterbury Post Office is to move into WHSmiths in November! All staff have to re-apply for their jobs...

It's going that way. The shops will close tomorrow. Even worse it looks like the staff wont get paid tomorrow. I don't know if they have been told that yet though. They will be paid "in due course" whatever that means. Looks like Ernst & Young will come in as administrators very soon.

One annoyed manager sent an email to all the stores and changed the FOPP sign to FLOPP.
